  1. Subject–Verb Agreement

    • Singular subject → singular verb, plural subject → plural verb.
      He goes to school.
      He go to school.

  2. Each / Everyone / Either / Neither + Singular Verb
    Each boy was present.

  3. Plural Subjects Joined by ‘and’ → Plural Verb
    Ram and Shyam are playing.
    Ram and Shyam is playing.

  4. Two Singular Subjects with “or / nor” → Singular Verb
    Either Ramesh or Suresh is guilty.

  5. Pronoun Agreement

    • Singular subject → singular pronoun
      Each of the girls has her book.

  6. Who / Whom Rule

    • Who = subject, Whom = object.
      Whom do you want to meet?

  7. Less vs Fewer

    • Less = uncountable, Fewer = countable.
      Fewer students, less money.

  8. Much vs Many

    • Much = uncountable, Many = countable.
      Much information, many books.

  9. Since vs For

    • Since = point of time, For = period of time.
      I have been waiting since morning / for two hours.

  10. Between vs Among

  • Between = two, Among = more than two.
    Share this between Ram and Shyam / among five friends.

  1. Comparative + ‘than’ → Use ‘other’ / ‘else’
    He is better than any other student.

  2. Double Negatives Not Allowed

  3. Prefer vs Rather than

  4. No Sooner…Than

  5. Not Only…But Also

  6. Either…Or / Neither…Nor → Verb agrees with the nearest subject
    Neither the teacher nor the students were present.

  7. ‘A number of’ vs ‘The number of’

  • A number of → plural verb

  • The number of → singular verb
    A number of boys are absent.
    The number of boys is large.

  1. Adjective vs Adverb

  • Adjective qualifies noun/pronoun; adverb qualifies verb/adjective/adverb.
    She speaks fluently (adverb).

  • Who → person

  • Which → things/animals

  • That → person + thing
